Ok so I noticed that in my car, as with many other gm's, that while driving the temp guage goes down to about 1/4. But then when stopped at a stop light the temp goes up to the middle. but when idling in traffic in rush hour the temp goes up to 3/4. Why is this? I installed a new thermostat, and it didn't fix it. I don't like it because I know that with changes in temperature the metals expand and since this is a bi-metal engine they expand at different rates and that puts more stress on Head Gaskets. Is there a way I can get it to run at a constant temp just like any Japenese car I've driven? I don't like knowing the extra stress being put on my motor by this.
If there is ABSOLUTELY no way to stop this from happening, than can someone at least explain WHY this is like this? Thanks
