1994 Jeep Cherokee and Car Subwoofer questions?

I have a 1994 Jeep Cherokee and I would like to hook up a new sound system. I heard alpine is a good company to buy. I was thinking about 1 12" Subwoofer with 1500Watts. Is that plenty to have in my ride or more? Also, for a new receiver, do you need to get them speciallly sized for your cars front pannel. Help is much appreciated.THanks!
