i got a 93 mx-3 im planing on puting another motor in it it is a 1.6 but e-bay has a 2.0 my question is would i have to change the tranny because of the bigger motor and i was wondering the same thing about a 1.8
The 1.8 will mate to the transmission. The 2.0 will not.
All of the engine electronics can be switched over (with a little modification) from the 1.6 to the 1.8 as some years have a different throttle body and maf that will not work with your ECM.
The problem with the transmission maybe the flywheel or flex plate. By using the parts from the 1.6 instead of the 1.8 it will all work out. The 1.6 flywheel is lighter and therefore preferred for zip!
