well when it comes to getting ur engine to spark you obviously want to worry about the electrical system...make sure the battery has enough power to turn the starter over...you can even hit your starter with a hammer to try to get it to click over and that way you can tell if its going out, if the starters good then check the distrubitor and make sure the timings not off, then the plug wires then the spark plugs themselves, also check if the ignition coil is original because if its 16 years old its probabally on its way to going out to...by the way squirting starting fluid isnt going to do anything on a fuel injected engine..its only for carbureted engines
