So i bought a truck off of Craigslist 6 days ago and now the tranny started slipping three days ago. Engine light comes on and off and today I went to back up and nothing. Would not even engage in reverse. So I waited about five hrs and finally was able to back it in my driveway. When i bought it, it had a leak from the transmission pan, but I changed the pan and gasket, filter, fluid. What could it be?
I used the right fluid but it is past full by a 1'' on the dipstick.
Its a V6. Ford made them in 1992. Its a 4.9l.

Yeah, your trans fluid is most likely aerated from being overfilled that much, making it impossible to build decent hydraulic pressure. That, and/or the filter is loose, and it's sucking air. It uses the filter with the long tube that goes up inside, right? Make sure the O-ring isn't missing too.

And as far as the motor, it's true that Ford never put a V6 in any F-series until 1997, and then only the 4.2L Essex motor. Would be easy for someone to transplant one though,as the same trans fits that, the 4.9L straight 6, and the Windsor V8's. There never was a 4.9L V6.
