so i drive a 95 cobra and i hit a deer last night and im not gonna have time to mess with it for a while but i came across a 92 explorer today near my house forsale for 1600 but i talked them down to 1200 it has a 122xxx miles on it i test drove it and it ran good and the tranny shift out fine but the only thing i was skepic about was that there was a growing sound while driving...but i called my dad and he said he's use to that to...i drive about a 3 hour round trip to work and wanted to know if yall thought it was a reliable transportation ,,,, thanks

if it has an agressive thread design on the tires that may be the noise you hear or it has a bad wheel bearing, front axel shaft or a belt pulley is worn but you should hear that after its running for a minute or two at fast idle, have a mechanic look it over for you then go from there. $1200 is a good price if its in good shape and runs good but the bearing isnt cheap, price one at auto parts store

I would not buy it. First 1200 is a little steep for a 17 year old vehicle. Second, they are known for having problems with their transmissions after 100k miles. I don't know if it's 4x4 or not, but if it is, there is yet more problems with the transfer case, locking hubs, and wheel joints. I have worked on a few of these and the repair bill was always more than double what it was worth. Just my two sense, for 1200 you can get something better than a Exploder.
