1991 Toyota Celica GT-S ??? Technical Service advice?

Engine surges at idle when warm, it dies at ldle. Replaced plugs wires cap and rotor. Slight improvement but listed problem still exsites. Not too familiar with this car. Belongs to my son. 2.2 eng. I 'm going to check for a vacuum leak tomorrow. Any advise whould be welcomed. DAD
 
vacuum leak check is a great place to start. Grab a can of starter fluid or intake cleaner and spray it lightly around the intake and any vacuum hoses. If it revs up, you found your leak.

Also check to make sure your temp sensors are connected and working.
