Ok, I have a manual 1991 honda civic hatchback dx. One day I come home, my sub woofers stop working. I turn the car off, then back on to reset the amp. When I turn the car back on, the idle is going very fast, way more idle than normal, the check engine light comes on, I try to drive it, but it starts to die, and backfire constantly, i give it more gas I move a little and its just constant backfiring! and the engine sounds very "off". So i turn the car off, and back on...then it starts and runs smooth and fine! We took it in the garage and there was a funky smell. We did a little check on the engine and pulled the spark plugs out and there was a little white mist coming out of the holes. some of the spark plugs were a little wet, barely. I started it today and it smoked for about 20 seconds (white smoke) then stopped smoking. its sounds and runs fine now. We still think there is something wrong with it and don't want it to break down like that away from home! Help! Is there any way I can check anything else? and what does the wet plugs and white mist coming out mean??

Ps. I have reved that car pretty high before, in different gears including 5th on the highway. (i went in really high rpm's on the highway going fast.its a small car with a stock engine, so it doesn't go too fast. there's no gage, I could just hear it reving really high). can that cause a problem, or could have caused the problem?

Thanks!

You probably have an ignition problem.

The white smoke when you start it is usually water vapor.

The mist coming out of the engine when the plugs are out is gasoline.

If your igniter is going south, your subs aren't going to help the car any. I would replace the cap and rotor, the igniter, and the spark plugs.

In the mean time, disconnect your subs because you're going to need all the electricity you can get if you've got a gap.
