1991 chevy camaro rs air filter and engine componets?

okay I have a 1991 camaro rs with a 305 v8 automatic and I took the original air filter cover and filter off today and replaced with an aftermarket chrome cover and filter and I unhooked what im guessing was the sensors in it .....it runs fine sounds better and seems to have a lil more power but after about drivin it 2 miles the check engine light came on and I curiouse to why im pretty sure its because of the mods i did cuz it never has came on before if you can help me out with this it would be great and it still has original carburator if thats helpful any and if putting an aftermarket filter and unplugging the sensors are bad for the car.....
 
It was probably the MAF sensor. Your car will run rough without it. You should probably put the factory parts back on to avoid any problems
 
sounds like you might have not connected something while reassembling it. get under the hood and re track all your steps. doesnt sound like anything bad , just probably a loose hose or sensor. if you need more help check out thirdgen.org. its a forum specifically made for owners of third generation camaros and firebirds which are 1982 to 1992.
