1990 Buick Skylark Speedometer Issue?

The speedometer in my car shows you are going MUCH faster than you really are. At above maybe 55 actual MPH the speedometer is pegged so far to the right you can't even see it anymore - like it thinks you're going 200 MPH or something.

What's the fix for this?

Thought I could live with it since it passed inspection this way, but got a ticket today for speeding because I couldn't tell how fast I was going.

The speedometer stepper motor is faulty. It's a common problem and although the instrument cluster stepper motors can be replaced at minimal cost most repair shops, including the dealer, will want to replace the entire cluster. But that is expense and unnecessary. I suggest you remove the instrument cluster yourself and send it to someplace like Southern Electronics for repair. They have a 24 to 48 hour turn around on repairs and the repair cost will be a small fraction of the price of a new cluster and even a fraction of the cost of a used cluster.
