1989 Jeep Wrangler shut off while driving. Short somewhere.?

I have a 1989 wrangler and I was driving it when I hit the left turn signal and the car died. Now there is nothing at the key. I located the ignition switch at the bottom of the steering column and performed some electrical tests. I found that the constant 12v had fried coming of the starting relay before the fuseable link. I jumpered the ignition wire with the harness connected AND disconnected. When connected it blew a fuse, when disconnected from the switch it worked fine. I did the same for the constant 12v with the same results except instead of a fuse it further damaged the wire at the starter relay.. I suspect a short in somewhere between the ignition switch and the turn/wiper switch. Has anyone had a similar issue? Im curious about someone elses results.
