1989 Jeep 4.2L Oiling Problem?

I was driving my 1989 Jeep Wrangler (4.2L inline 6) on the highway when the thermostat stuck closed. Another driver alerted me to the steam coming out from under the Jeep.

I replaced the thermostat and since then, the engine runs fine, no smoke, no oil consumption, no coolant loss or leaks, no signs of any problem except now the oil pressure is slightly less about 35-40 psi on the dash gauge and I noticed there doesn't seem to be much if any oil getting to the valve train.

There are no engine knocks and the engine seems tight but there is now a slight tapping from the valves at idle (this drew my attention to the oiling problem).

Any thoughts or recommendations?

it sounds like the overheating slightly damaged your valves, i would recommend having your valves re-adjusted back into spec, easy as taking your valve cover off turning on your engine and letting it idle and slowly loosen and tighten the rocker arm bolts, and it sounds like your oil pick up screen may be plugged up causing high pressure
