1988 Pontiac Bonneville Startup problem?

My 1988 Pontiac Bonneville LE that i just received from my grandparents as my first car has what i think is a problem when i start it up. When it starts up immediately you have to give it gas or the car shakes a lot and then will stop on you. and at first its only a little bit of gas then eventually your almost fighting the car revving it so it wont die, after about 30 seconds it will stop and the rumble will also then its perfectly fine. Maybe this is normal maybe its just old. Is this fixable and what is it i know almost 0 about cars. and also any tips for it if it is common
