1987 Toyota Pick-Up 4WD 2.4L 2BL 4cyl won't start. Help Please.?

1987 Toyota Pick-Up 4wd,
Its not the battery, we know that for sure,
we replaced the starter and it work for a while but then it won't start up.
It won't even act like it will start up, when you try it makes a clicking sound. Any clue what it could be, the guy we bought it from said something about an alternator switch (but who knows). Any Suggestions of what to check?
 
check battery must have 12.7 volts
2 clean and tight connections
3 if battery is really good and connections clean/tight is a bad starter soloniod.
