I just bought a ZG1000 as a project bike to mess around with. The fuel petcock/tap has 3 options on it; Res, On and Prime. The bike will run with this On and on Res, but it coughs and hacks like it's not getting fuel. I bought it like this, and the guy said that it's got some internal damage most likely. I noticed that if i put the tap on Prime, the bike runs perfectly, revs quickly, idles easily and has tons of power. I suspect that there is no internal damage, just a problem with the fuel delivery. When I remove the gas tank and put the valve to On, shouldn't there be gas running out of the tap? If i take off the tank and put the valve to On or Reserve, there is no gas coming out at all. I can run the bike on prime, but when i turn the bike off it leaks/overflows out of the carb. Any ideas?
1987 Kawasaki ZG1000 only runs on "Prime"?
