I was driving my 1987 honda accord ex-i with temperature gauge at normal, air conditioning on, when I smelt an anti-freeze smell and then temperature gauge shortly after went right to hot i quickly turned the car off let cool down added cold water to rad with my wife keeping it running and every time she revved it up the water blew strait up out of rad and the water was a rusty brown color
I am also wondering if it could be the head gasket

Sounds to me like the thermostat went bad. I had an 87 Accord DX and it went through three thermostats during the 300,000 miles that I drove it. You could have a busted hose as well. Check them both out. You can drive the car without a thermostat during the summer but should get on installed again before winter.

First off, the water is always going to be that colour, forget or rather, don't worry about that.
The water coming out when she revved is not an issue either. With the rad cap on, the system becomes pressurised, to stop the water from boiling.
Have you checked for a burst hose?
Or possibly one vibrated off or loose?
