Anyone know anything about this bike? Im in the market for an older duc and searched craigslist for the NYC area and found this...from what I understand its their first v-twin and the first to use the trellis frame....

thats the link to the bike that is for sale....basically i want to know what people think about that for a price....the bike looks like its in good condition although i would obviously have to go see it....am i getting in way over my head in terms of maintainence and such or is this something a relatively novice ducatisti could handle

thanks guys

Um.... "first"..??.. No.... You could say that year was 1971. And the Pantah motor (500cc) debuted in 1980.

As far as maintenance goes, in general, should be relatively easy and straight forward being a 2 valve Pantah. That is of course if it hasn't been butchered or mucked up in any way. But that is always the concern when buying second hand.

Not sure why it is 'rare' though.

I stand corrected....Im not sure why its rare either....Do you or anyone else on this board have any time on them? If so what is the ride like? Im obviously not looking for a speed demon...just something that I could take on a nice lesiurely ride (my 848 doesnt really like the word lesiurely)

I owned a 650 pantah for a number of years and they ride/handle like, well... a Ducati. They were more 'raked' out and conservative than these newer bikes which make them steer slower but are very solid and stable though. When you started punting them hard you just had put more body into them.
Compared to the new gen 4 valvers..... yep - leisurely is the word, but bloody good fun. I had a mate with a GPZ750 at the time and I could keep him honest with the twin until she ran out of legs.
