1983 Suzuki GS550E problems i need help thanks...?

Is it a two stroke? If so, then maybe four stroke would be the same.
If I remember correctly,There is a cover on the right lower side of the engine that has about 6 to 8 screw type bolts holding it on. [Please bare with me, it's been over 30 years since I worked on one].
That would be the cover for the alternator. Want I have found in the past, is that inside that cover, a bolt has worked it's way loose and is rattling around in there. I have also found the same thing under the other side's cover, but the right side seem to occur more often then not.
Without hearing the actual rattle, that all that comes to mind.
The gas leak is the result of a sticky fuel flow valve. Try to remember to turn the gas off at the tanks fuel petcock. The only remedy for that problem, is to have the carb(s) rebuilt. Dirt and debris in the gas, gets pass the filters, and plays havoc of the interior of the carburetor's fuel metering systems.
A mini in line fuel filter would solve any further damage.
It is vague in my memory what year Suzuki switched from 2 stroke to 4 stroke engines in the 550;
oh I know, the model 550 GT was 2 stroke, and the 550 GS was 4 stroke. The 2 stroke 550's and the 750 2 stroke "Water Buffalo" were two fast bikes during their time.
But the rattle was common in both, 2 & 4 stroke. Get it fixed, could bounce one too many times and jam you alternator then big $$$$$.
I would advise buying a Chilton Motorcycle Manual for your bike, it was a life saver for me when I did Motorcycle repair work. And stay on top on oil/trans fluid changes, they are picky bikes when it comes to that.
I hope that this helped you!
Happy Holidays!
