1983 Mazda RX-7 as First Car?

I found what I think to be an awesome deal on craigslist, a 1983 RX-7 for 800$ with little rust and running in good condition.

I just turned 16 and just got my licience and was wondering if this would be a good first car. From reading different descriptions off various websites, I have developed 2 main concerns:

First, One man said they are easy to work on but require alot of work very often. Is this true, and if so what kind of work.

Second, Wikipedia said it has a 4 cylinder engine but a different site said it has an 8. What size engine do they have, and what kinda gas milage does it get cause i dont want all my money to go into my tank.

I have grown up working on small engines and me and my dad do most of our own car work, so I am mechanicly minded, i just dont want to have to fix something every other week.
Thank you very much.

PS If you are one of those people that will give a 1 word answer just to get points, please dont bother.

sure, why not? just make sure you don't have to drive on the highway often because it's an old car, and it could break down suddenly. it sounds like a pretty good car for the price. check out autotrader.com or vehix.com for more used cars, though, keep your options open! goodd luck and congrats on having parents who will buy you a car. haha i'm 16 too and have been begging for months to get a car.
