Im 16 and im trying to fix up my '82 Ram so I can start driving. But ive been having some problems with it. The main issue is starting the truck. I have to turn the key maybe 10 times for it to even catch a spark, is this a problem with the starter? Another problem is that most of the time when i put it into drive or reverse, it will quit as soon as i start moving and I can't figure out why. This Ram carries a Slant Six and an automatic tranny.

put a new starter in it and have someone look at it, or you can look at the tranny. and put new spark plugs in it that will help it spark

Without being there it is going to be hard to diagnose the problem, but it sounds like it may either have a clogged fuel filter or the choke is hanging. The starting problem sounds like a bad connection. Check all the connections for the starting system. (ground and positive on the battery, the connection at the starter and solenoid, and the second ground from the battery to the engine block) If this does not correct the problem, email me and give me more details and I'll try to help you figure it out. sounds like the starter or a bad connection.the stalling out could be a bad vacuum advance on the distributor.
