Always give year, make, engine size and model # when asking questions. We need all of that info to give an informed answer.
The XS & XJ require different procedures.
Purchase a service manual.

I have a 1980 Yamaha 650 and recently the clutch cable snapped. I am new to bikes and don't know how to put the new one on. I have removed the cable from the clutch lever up top and am getting ready to remove the rest but don't really understand how to or even how to put the new one on. If anyone has a step by step guide or a website to refer that would really help.
Thanks

looks like you are starting to maintain your own bike. Good for you. Don't rely on internet postings for advice however. Your best friend will be a repair manual. The information contained inside will more than save you the cost of the book. I'll give you one tip. Get an impact driver to loosen the screws on the outer cover. Do not use a screw driver.
