1980 Suzuki GS1000 problem?

I currently own a 1980 Suzuki GS1000. When driving it may stop responding to the throttle. If I hold the throttle in position it will maintain speed as long as I hold it there but when I slow down for whatever reason it will not accelerate up again. Eventually I will have to come to a stop where the bike dies on me. I can wait anywhere from an hour up to a day to start again and then it won't give me problems for another week or so until it does it again. Lately it has become more frequent up to recently where it's every day. Anyone able to shed some light on my poor little bikes sadness?
Sounded like a fuel problem to me as well. I replaced all fuel lines and bought a brand new pet (fuel) cock and installed. Vacuum is running clean and pulls fuel well. Same problems persists.
