So i bought myself an 80' cj5, came fresh from arizona and is in very nice shape. Its got the 4.2L in it, single stick xfer case with a 4 speed. This is my first jeep and i was just wondering if anyone has a page they could link me showing some specs on the hardware.

also it has a 6" lift and 35X14.50 tires on it which im going to downgrade because its far too much for the 6cyl.
Now, if it has dana 30's in it which i think it does, it would be running 2.73 ratio, which is way too high like 1300rpm @ 65mph! it barely even does 50 with those tires on it. I found a chart that shows if i use 4.56 gears (if they will fit and i can get them for those axels) it would be around 2400-2500 rpm at that speed. That should be around the torque band im guessing for that engine.

Any help would be great!

Dana 44's are a very popular axle for that they are strong and are much easier to trade gears in, also any truck axle can be fitted to the cj with just a minimum of welding, truck axles will give it more side to side stability and the selection of gear ratios is way better, good job to downsize your tires anyway if you are building it to do any serious off roading you will want a narrow tire and should not go any bigger than a 33" 4.56 would be just right for this combo.
