Since the shifter is on the transmission, I guess you are talking about the clutch linkage. Your 3-speed on the column is a manual right? Check to see if your new transmission fits the old bellhousing. If it does, there should be no change to the clutch linkage. The clutch linkage should be the same, or almost the same. If it is now an automatic, you will need the pedal assembly, bellhousing, clutch, and flywheel. Go to a junkyard and find a Ford truck that uses the same 4-speed, and get the linkage off of it and use it. If for some reason you have to make one, the easiest way is to use a hydraulic clutch, with a master cylinder connected to the pedal and a slave cylinder connected to the clutch lever.
