Quick thought...is it a good idea to pull the spark plugs and pour in a little oil as lubrication for the pistons before i rotate the cam using the kick starter?
No. Not unless the bike has been sitting idle for a LONG time....like years.
In that case, something like MMO (Marvel Mystery Oil) or ATF would be good.
What's your objective? If it is setting the timing or the valves, then removing the plugs makes it easier to hit the right spot but is in no way "necessary".
Thanks for the info Easy Rider. The bike had been sitting covered in a garage for a little under 2 years. The objective for this round was to make certin that the engine was not frozen...and mission accomplished, if it hadn't then I would have had to contemplate on either:
1. Rebuild Engine
2. Buy another engine
3. Part out bike
Luckly I will be able to begin the resot project and have some fun this summer. Thanks again for the reply!
Ride well my friend.
