1977 Chevy Nova seems to stall/ drown out, what could it be?

Ok, my nova has the 350 small block V8 in it, and it's very tired. I already replaced all the fouled out spark plugs with new ones... it temporarily fixed my issue. Then I get on the highway, and full-throttle it, and it dies. Just fall flat on it's face till I slow to about 30 again, and slowly starts chugging along... what gives? Any suggestions, tips, or clues as to what it might be would be great! It's a 350 small block, 3 spd auto, and roughly 150,000 miles on it. That's about all I can offer. Thanks for your time!

Man, You have smacked me in the face with a easy one. You got some time? The chevy 350 small block is my baby. First step, pull all the plugs and do a compression test on all 8. If you have a difference of more than 2 pounds on any cylinder, you need to pull the engine apart. It is not as hard as it sounds. I suspect you have serious valve leakage and might have a problem with the rings also. Does it smoke a lot? Does it need oil often? It is not so hard to remove the engine and do the work outside the car. It is best . The engine can be cleaned, repaired, and adjusted to factory specs or it can be modified to produce way more horsepower than the factory allowed. You can learn in a few weeks and rebuild the 350 into a serious hot rod engine or just make it run well and get reasonable gas mileage. Keep me posted on the situation. I love a good Chevy 350.
