1977 cadillac deville?

bought this car from a towing company auction and this evening went out to leave and noticed it would not move foward untill i put it in lowe one and then while giving it gas i could hear a whinning noise.car is very solid and the engine is very sound so im not going to junk it.but wahat this mean thanks
