1975 mg midget 1500. second car. help!?

so my first car, (an 82 jetta) recently failed me, and my neighbor offered me his 1975 midget for 5,000. i'm wondering, how good of a car is it? my family knows nothing about cars and i just want to make sure it's worth it. he says the engine was rebuilt in 06, and it appears to be in great shape. anybody have any advice?
