Hi i just recently found a 1972 Pontiac lemans that im interested in buying , but it has been sitting for around 4 years. I was told that it ran when it was parked where its parked at " kinda in some grass but not too high of grass" and that all it needs is a new carburetor and battery and it should start up .. Im just wondering about the rust that the frame could have on it , and if it would be really really foolish to buy a car that doesnt run ... I would kind of like to restore it , and turn it into a hotrod type car , but im alil scared to buy something that might be just a waste of money... The guy is asking $2000.00 for it , but im going ot offer him 1000.00 for it as it is.. Would you buy a car like this ? I was also wondering what sort of bad things i should expect from a car like this , due to sitting for such a long period of time..... Any help would be much appreciated... Its got a 350 small block in it right now .. Thank you

its the oldies dodge made that it ran 4 years ago but doesnt now main conser would be is the motor froze up
and what else worked 4 years ago but doesnt now run away as fast as you can a nonrunning car isnt worth even the 1000 bucks you offer him call a dealer and see what they offer for it

If I were you, I'd do more research on cars and Pontiacs in particular. I say this because you call the Pontiac 350 a small block. It is not.

Aside of the condition of the car, it would serve you well to get the VIN and post it here - it will indicate what engine the car originally came with, as if it's a 400-4, 455-4, or 455 HO, it's certainly worth saving. Ditto if it's a Lemans GT.

You can also get the original invoice from Pontiac Historical Services.

The best advice I can give you, though, is to find another car. It sounds like you'll be in over your head, and that's a big investment to have to deal with.
