190,000 dead as a result of China’s weapons tests. Is this true?

A soldier who was member of Unit 8023 for 23 years, said in an interview. His job was to go into the blast zone to retrieve test objects and monitoring equipment after the explosion.

How true is this figure of 190,000 dead?
 
We all know that the Western media esp in the USA and UK have its own agenda; they love to play up all things negative about China.
 
sorry, don't know about that unit, but unit 731 was a Japanese unit in china during WWII that is responsible for some pretty gruesome things killing well over 200,000 people
