18 speed mountain bike gear & brakes combined?

i have a 18 speed Mountain bike & i am looking for a brake & gear lever combined don't like the twist grip gears that are on the bike at the moment but every one i have seen is for bikes with more than 6 gears on the rear cassette please can some one point me in the right direction thanks
