I think that if I just rode a bike more, then I'd be more fit and more capable of going to places by myself (instead of walking or carpooling). However, I can't ride a bike. I tried riding one when I was 12, but some children were outside and I grew embarrassed, so I gave up almost immediately.

No.
Nevermind.
I gave up immediately.

I get embarrassed by random neighbor kids riding on bikes perfectly and I don't want to be seen trying to ride a bike by myself like a retard. The problem progresses each year as I get older. I'm 17 and can't ride a bike. That's seriously pathetic. Is there any way I can overcome this fear/problem? :(

Just go for it! It's all balance. The faster you go, the easier it is. Hell, I can hardly swim. =_=;
F*cking water...

But if you fall, just pretend you are in a comedy! That works for me :D (Smack my head in the drive thru window, got ketchup all over my shirt at a rennasance fair, other embarrasing crap...just laugh it off!)

^__^

Get a scooter. I'm 25 and still not comfortable riding on bikes even though my dad is a regular rider. I'm also scared I'll get hit by a car or fall off.

It's not pathetic some people just don't like some things like some people hate roller coasters, swimming, riding in elevators, gymnastic etc.

I also happen to dislike skiing too and can't do it worth snot or surfing for the matter, it's just a personal preference and I sure you're great at something those bike riding kids can't do as well

Luckily riding a bike isn't a life skill unless your car breaks down but heck cabs and buses are still available.

Better you just stay home if little things like this embarrass you. I get government disability for my inability to function in normal society. You should see a psychiatrist and file for permanent disability. It's not that bad staying home. You can play video games since you're too panicked and lonely to write books or anything. But I feel too guilty to have online friends, let alone real ones. If I had one of those anyone could see I could probably get a job too.

as people tell
only loser is quitter

so keeping try it
it is not that hard if you practice

hhh honey BIG HUGS!! you'r not alone here Im 33 and I can't ride a bike, swim, ice skate OR drive a car... I had 5 pretty major eye surgeries as a kid to save mu sight so I have to be careful with everyday activities but I feel ya!!

No its not! My boyfriend is 23 and can't ride a bike! Just go somewhere secluded where know one will see you - try riding until you can get it down... just pedal and use your hands and arms to guide the bike where you want to go. BUT, you may want to first figure out how the breaks work first!

i totally understand how you feel :(
i am 13 and i have not learned yet.i am also embarrassed to learn in front of kids i know. the only way to over come it is to learn how to do it.try to learn in a more private place, were there are not any people. i am sure a brother or sister could teach you.
