It's quite simple but feared by many coaches. Why? Because there comfortable with there old pitching methods that they believe are the only ways to train. To gain velocity you have to have momentum. It is key to any pitcher. Tim Lincecum stands at 5'10 and weighs around 175 pounds and yet he can get his fastball up to 100 mph. Lincecum has been called a freak because he is not your typical power pitcher. Lincecum has mastered the Science of Pitching. He has found that by using momentum he can throw up in the mid 90's. Arm Strength is important but its a waste of time. Pitchers often times end up wasting time and money on useless products that end up never working. This includes long toss programs and weighted balls which have all been proven wrong by Science. Long toss isn't similar to pitching because it doesn't replicate the same motions. Instead long toss just wastes time and ends up worsening pitchers arm. Weighted balls are bad as well because they slow the arm speed down. You may feel that the ball feels lighter but in reality it weighs the same and you throw no harder then you did before. So don't waste time long tossing and using weighted balls. Instead you can be pitching and learning the proper mechanics and end up adding around 10 mph to your fastball. Look at pitching.com. Its a site by **** Mills who has previous experience in the MLB. He explains how to add mph. I'll post a link. Again don't waste time long tossing because it doesn't help. The best arms in the outfield are in RF. Outfielders long toss and yet you see no difference in how far or hard they can throw. Here's the site and I wish you luck:
