Hello. My name is John, and I am 13 years old (Almost 14). I am extremely interested in becoming a published author. Mostly because I want to share my thoughts and feelings with a big crowd. I need some help though, First of all, how long does it take to write a book? Second, if you are young like me, does it mean publishers don't honestly take us serious? Third, should I go with what I feel like writing in the moment, or should i take hours to get one page done? Thanks for your help =) P.S. I keep a journal of my ideas for books, will this help?

it all depends on what kind of book you're trying to make, genre, style etc. publishing a book costs money,or having someone in a big company look at your work might mean special benefits, its not that ppl wont take u serious it's that theres alot of young writers or tenn writers trying to catch a brake,by all means go for it give it a try, dont try and do a profesional and take forever writing one page, write what you feel thats usually what is better, poems aren't made to meet someone's expectations, just write what u want what makes you feel happy =] it might connect with someone else,or catch someones attention

Well, I'm not a legit author.
But I want to be.. And I know it'll take me years to perfect my writing skills.
So I suggest for you to work on yours too. I bet they're not perfect, yet.
And when I write one chapter, it takes me 2 hours or so and then I re-write/revise it like 3 times.
I've been writing for a year now and I don't have a finished story yet.

Only thing I can suggest is, wait till you finish college.
Or maybe I can read some of your stories? :} I'm interested.

I once called a published and rambled on for 30 minutes. He seemed very patient...much to his dismay when he found out that I hadn't even finished the book. But i was 14 at the time. I still laugh when I think of that poor guy trapped on the phone...
But publishers will take you srsly if your book is good and it's finished. age really doesn't matter.

You don't need to spend an hour on a page. You write what you feel.
You now how pianist just play and are in their own little world? Us writers, we play the keyboard, typing words and stay in our own little world.

I started writing my first book when I was 13, btw. I'm 19 now. I'm still writing stories today.

Keeping a journal for your ideas is a wonderful idea!
I carry a notebook in my purse at all times.
I have been stuck without it before and need to write something down.
I wrote it on toilet paper. srsly. i really did. and kept it too.

How long does it take to write a book?
It depends on the author.
Some can dish out a book in months. some a year. some a couple years.
some, it takes a lifetime. Like Gone With The Wind.

The story i started when I was 13, it's still in progress today. But it will get finished.
Have I finished other stories? yes.
I'm on a different book right now. Try to finish that and get it published.

So one step at a time.
Get your idea. be passionate about it. Write in the moment and edit later.
Don't bother the poor publishers until you're done with your book though xp

Happie Writing!
=D
