Tried to have these listed as part of my signature, but guess I did something wrong.

The only thing that I was told regarding the revision was that they were going to take out the screws and put bigger ones in. Like to know a little bit more about the proceedure before I see the surgeon so that I know what questions to ask him. Thanks so much for your help!!!!

I am glad to see that they are not going to remove the hardware. Why are they adding larger hardware? Are your current ones loose or do you need them more to stabilize your spine?

they are replacing the screws due to the fact that one level did not fuse. In the authorization from the insurance carrier, they stated that all hardware be removed and replaced. I see the Dr. July 7th. Most of the time the patient is in the dark until the day of surgery or after the fact.

That is interesting - so there is nothing wrong with the hardware and they want to replace it. I would be curious as to the rationale behind that. What put your body thru that if you don't need it? I know with mine they just added more bmp to the revision site and removed one side of the hardware.

Sorry Ladies , thought I'd jump in ;) I had my hardware replaced before nan . The reason he did was because I broke my pedical screw and I wasn't fused . Pepper is right , why would they remove it if it isn't broke ? I'm thinking maybe he wants to get the protien in there pretty good .. Maybe because you had NO sign of fusion .

Anyway , when they replace your hardware it will be the same as your first surgery pain wise and recovery time .. Mine was .. But my surgeon cleaned my fusion site up while he was in there.. It took him 9 hours to do me again .
They have to use larger screws because when they pull your old screws out the holes will be stripped clean and the origanal screws won't hold in tight enough. I'm curious why he wants to replace them tho ? anyway , I'm sorry I butted in and wish you the best in your upcomming surgery .
