1212 Entertainment Announced by Bebop Producer, Focused on doing LA Anime Adaptations

What I've read gives me the feeling they're emotionally invested in the anime. So far, nothing's made me think that its going to be as bad as DBE.
 
Bebop is pretty much the anime version of a Tarantino movie. It's a creative mix of American, Chinese, and European cinematic and cultural influences, not so much Japanese as it is a post-national melting pot dream. The most distinctly Japanese thing about it is that the story ended up being told through animation, and this American version obviously doesn't have that. I do think there's a better chance than with most series that the rest of its style and essence can be carried over to make a cool movie.

No I'm not saying DBE was good in any way just that you get get much much worse then it. Look at countless Video game to movie adaptions far worse then DBE.
 
DBE is pretty much at the same level as most video game adaptations, especially the Uwe Boll ones, in that they don't have anything to do with the original, and are not good films in any way. And no, I don't think this could possibly be any worse than DBE, especially if Watanabe has even the smallest part in its creation.
 
Du-oh I guess I was hoping it'd get cannceld before it started. Oh well, hopefully they don't get some crappy actors for the characters. Why don't they get a much more easy series to be made, like Lupin the third?
 
I actually have hopes for this film. I wish more people would give it the benefit of the doubt, the people involved seem more honest about adapting Bebop properly than anyone else who's tackled anime-to-live action before them.
 
I just feel like everything that has been said about this project has been said. This is merely a new delivery system for the project, one which comes off like a live action IMAGI, because, they're doing so great financially.

If you want to discuss the new studio, I easily see it taking IMAGI's route of burying itself in red ink by trying to compete with big studios.

I would think Mr. Reeves has a fair amount of respect for the source material. From all of his statements concerning this project he certainly seems to.
 
He hasn't really shown any range, but who knows? He was cast as Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde recently and that role is an extreme range of emotions, so maybe he has some hidden untapped talent. Either that or Hollywood casting people really suck.
