If he doesn't know what the error is, how does he fix it? Unless he can easily replicate it, which I'm assuming since he didn't come upon it and it isn't his comp, he can't so easily do.

It won't even go past the startups screen. Windows is not even opening. All I see is "Acer" and "hit F2 for setup" at the bottom. I hit F2, nothing. Most likely a hardware issue, and it's covered under warranty.
 
Hard drive perhaps. I must admit, this is the first time I have ever heard of an acer having an issue. It should be easy for the company to fix it for you.
 
Chuck in your WinXP disk and then boot from it. When you get to the list of currently installed operating systems, just repair install of running a fresh install. Should work.

I am suprised that the BSOD has been that much of a cunt to crash your computer. Fucking Microsoft. If all else fails, go use Ubuntu or another distribution of Linux. Much sexier.
 
Since it won't even POST (try reading the entire thread) a boot CD is what we can call useless.



And WAY more useless for the average user.

You know why 90% of the world uses Windows? Because it does EXACTLY what they want it to do: it controls the computer, they just click on stuff. 90% of the PC users do NOT want to know the inner workings of their PCs. They want to turn it on, click on shit and have the computer figure it out. They don't want to fuck with Linux, they don't WANT to understand a commant line, they have zero use for "mounting" anything in their PC.

You can hate Windows all you want. But it's brought the computer into Joe Average's hands and it does EXACTLY what s/he wants it to do. Linux requires too much understanding, too much knowledge and too much concern from the majority of PC users.

Yeah, you can tell me "huh uh... it's as easy to use as Windows" and I'll straight up tell you you're full of shit. If I buy a program for XP I know it works under XP. If I aquire a bit of software for Linux I don't know if it'll run on my box straight away. And Joe Average doesn't want to recompile jack shit. He wants to put a CD in, install his game and play it. Period.
 
Just adding a little more. Most people, whether computer savvy or not, would like a new computer to continue working after they get it home.


@Xennophontis... Stop trying to make your self look like you know computers. Here's a hint, we don't care.

And it might be better to take a computer running windows and working properly over seas.

Learn what is going to be helpful before making a suggestion please.
 
Shit man, that sucks. I have an Acer laptop with WinXP, and I don't think I've ever gotten blue-screened by it.

But yeah, if it's still under warranty, get them to fix it. Mine's way past warranty now.
