12 Monkeys

When it first came out back in the mid 90's I watched it and didnt really think much of it - didnt hate it, but didnt love it either. I suppose I wasnt in the right frame of mind.

However it was shown on BBC HD a couple of nights ago and have to say I rather enjoyed it, a lot. Maybe it's because I've been going through the Blade Runner box set and it's put me in the right frame of mind for more celebral sci fi.

Anyway, what are yout thoughts one the movie? I did a search but there appears to be very little discussion about it.

I thought it was good. Different style of sci-fi with added humour as well. Brad Pitt in particular was great (his oscar nomination proves it).

I enjoyed this too. Thanks for reminding me, must watch it again soon as I have the DVD. I forgot Brad Pitt was in it! I think it's one of Bruce Willis' best films. I like the theme of the justified paranoia.

I love 12 Monkeys, it's one of those films you can watch again and discover more from the film. It's enigmatic and very funny in parts. You do need a bit of patience for it, but if you can lend it that, it rewarRAB you.

Its my favourite movie of all time. I could watch it all day everyday. Truly amazing from the first time I saw it.

I love Sci-Fi films any way and well this just blew me away. The twist really got me the first time I watched it. I think thats what has stayed with me every time I have watched it. Fantastic stuff.

I thought it was a sad ending too, but hopefully the child version of Cole would have gone on to have a better life than the adult version in the film.

Also, what was Cole in prison for, in the future? I missed the beginning of the film so didn't catch it.

It's been a while since I saw it, but I thought the whole point of the film was the predestination/ontalogical paradox. It was impossible to change the future in any way as any influence that the time travellers could have had already happened anyway because they'd already travelled to the past.

In essence the child version of Cole could not possibly ever become anything other than the adult version of Cole in the film.

I hope I'm right anyway as the predesindation/ontalogical paradox is the thing I like most about the film, as it makes more sense to me than the way most films treat timetravel.

I thought the woman from the future, who sat near the guy with the virus on the plane, was going do something to prevent the catastrophe. That's the impression I got anyway.

She couldnt do anything to prevent the catastrophe as they cannot change the past - as per the film's particular rules on time travel.

She will use the virus in her present to work on a cure.

So whilst Cole's fate is very sad and cannot be changed, it is a positive ending because thanks to those events they will now find a cure and humankind (in the future) will be saved.
