12-21-2009---BBM Down & Long delay with e-mail

I just pray that it doesn't turn into the sidekick nightmare 2 months ago. I hope RIM has a way to prevent data loss like contacts, etc.

FYI for those looking for a credit from Rogers ...you might be able to pull something out of them (Good Will credit; something along those lines), but this was a RIM problem, not Rogers. I expect Rogers will probably work with you on this, but they certainly don't have to.

RIM has blamed their BBM 5.0.0.55 and 5.0.0.56 updates for the cause of the outage (yes, second one in less than a week).

I hear you...I'm not blaming Rogers at all, although a lot of people like to poke fingers at them since they are our carrier. I personally don't care about a credit, as like you said, RIM has already blamed it on the upgrades to bbm 5.0 causing issues. I'm just happy its working now.

I just wanted to make the information available, more than anything. I'd rather someone be informed prior to calling into Rogers and have them be told the exact same thing. It's easier going on the phone slightly educated about what you're complaining about, and it may work out in your benefit in the end.

Anyways, hope everyone has a great holiday, lets wish for no more outages until the new year...at very least.

New RIM outages won't be a problem with me. I won't be using them in 2010.

From RIM:

A service interruption occurred Tuesday that affected BlackBerry customers in the Americas. Message delivery was delayed or intermittent during the service interruption. Phone service and SMS services on BlackBerry smartphones were unaffected. Root cause is currently under review, but based on preliminary analysis, it currently appears that the issue stemmed from a flaw in two recently released versions of BlackBerry Messenger (versions 5.0.0.55 and 5.0.0.56) that caused an unanticipated database issue within the BlackBerry infrastructure. RIM has taken corrective action to restore service.

RIM has also provided a new version of BlackBerry Messenger (version 5.0.0.57) and is encouraging anyone who downloaded or upgraded BlackBerry Messenger since December 14th to upgrade to this latest version which resolves the issue. RIM continues to monitor its systems to maintain normal service levels and apologizes for any inconvenience to customers.

Emmc, it seems a lot of users are headed this way, and sadly are quick to use this as an excuse. Maybe it'll give a reason to try out an android-based device or winmo. Enjoy.

All the information from sidekicks was stored in servers. That's not the case with blackberries.
