1198 Prices

Hi all,
I'm new here and considering buying an 1198. I've owned 4 Hondas, currently an 06 CBR1000RR. The rule of thumb with the Japanese bikes is never pay MSRP. Does that apply with Ducati as well? Can I expect to negotiate a deal, or is it like the dealer suggested that it's $16,500ish and take it or leave it? Any feedback would be welcome. Looking forward to learning about the world of Ducati from you all.

Glad you posted that question. I recently put a deposit down on an 1198 and it was priced at MSRP $16,495. I think despite the recession, there are likely still enough of us wanting the new 1198 that I'm sure Ducati will have little trouble selling all they can make. You could always perhaps look into a leftover 1098, which the dealer might be willing to sell at under the MSRP to move as they've likely got capital tied up in it for some time.
 
I asked because the dealer made it sound like they would get very few and demand was extremely high, yet they had 5 or 6 left over 1098's on the floor. He was willing to discount the 1098's significantly, but I really want the 1198. Thanks for the input.
 
Karp, most of them are going to hold tight for the first few months, even then it's a tough buy, not like an 'asian" bike. :- ) Ask him how much he's discounting his 1098s's to....I'm curious.
