I would have to say keep the 1098r. Although i have not ridden a desmo it was your comment about being able to ride it daily that really stood out.
I love my 1098r it is reliable, fast enough, better looking and can be ridden in all environments.
If your after pure speed/status then your better off on the desmo.
Thats my 2c.

do you track the R, or are you going to track the desmo.....just a thought because most of the write ups you read say the r is quicker on track because most people can't get near the skill level required to ride it properly.....if you want the ultimate duke and aren't concerned with lap times go the desmo..........saying that i'd never trade my r in on one

the 1098s is nothing like the 1098r

I have tracked the 1098R but, but honestly don't think I would the desmo if I got it. So my real question is that would be the bike a good street bike, or is it too track focused to ride as a daily rider?

I have owned both and have never regretted trading my 1098r for the Desmo.

I have never used either bike for commuting...they both have a tendency to run hot..especially in any sort of traffic. You can have Catalyst make some replacement bodywork for the Desmo, as I did, and not have to worry so much about a mishap.

I find no comparison as for the electric/exciting feeling EVERY time I hop on the Desmo.

IMHO the Desmo is the best value on the market...for what you get. First thing to do is get softer springs up front if it will just be ridden on public roads vs. the track.

I've heard the cost of maintainig a Desmo is significantly greater than maintaing a 1098 (not cheap either) and that only certain dealers can perform the maintenance. I've heard...

Desmo ugly...in what way?

Best value? It's perhaps the most expensive bike out there. I would think the 1098R is a lot better value.

The Desmo is exotic, much more like a Ferrari than the 1098R.

I am curious. How is the 1098R significantly different than the 1098S other than slightly lighter and a bit more Hp?
