Just got off the phone to my local dealer her in Australia and they have the prices for these new 2008 models.

The 848, I believe, is nicely priced for what you get at around $22,500 AU + on road costs.

The 1098R on the other hand....................

Everyone sitting down.....................

Here in Australia it will cost you.................

$50,000 + who cares.

This was a bit of a shock - at first - but then when you think about what you are getting and the past pricing of all the 'racing' models eg SPS, 99*R's etc it probably what i expected i guess.

10 years ago when my bike hit the shops (98 916 SPS) i think they retailed for $36,000 so a balls out racer in todays terms for 50k is probably about right.

Hmmm........ (get calculator) 50k + full race exhaust + some bling ????

Maybe I'll have to wait another 10 years and buy a used one for half price.

Brett,

Here in the USA, the 1098R will cost $40 Grand, and, (like the limited edition TC), will come stock with the Full Termi Racing system. And like the TC, it will be imported with the regular OEM exhaust installed so the bike can clear customs, and then the dealer will remove the OEM exhaust and install the Termis during prep.

Just don't have a car and buy the R, that's what I always say.... well not really.
Do you take your bike to queensland raceway or morgan park?
I have seen a Ducati ad in AMCN for the 848 21,500 + on roads. Maybe dealer is adding a little extra because of demand?

Tennineeight - You are correct Thats where i got the 848 figure from, my bad, I wrongfully qouted the same ad. Ducati Brisbane (my preferred dealer) must have, or are soon to have them on the floor because they are already taking bookings for test rides.

No - haven't been to any tracks as yet, but will have to one day. A friend with a Buell wants to get me there but i don't have any 'approved' leathers and aren't to keen on the ill-fitting, sweaty rentals. I'm probably afraid of throwing it down the road after the cost of repair from the last time on Mt Glorious. Still haven't go it back together as yet and I don't want to scratch up my 'new' CF fairings. Just gutless I guess. My Buell mate went to Qld raceway and was a bit pissed off when every one blows him off down the straights. He reckons he rounds them up in the corners though!

Elton - forever on the ball, keeping us honest . Of course they come with those 'against the law' goodies. Silly me.
Apart from tyres and a fresh supply of underwear you wouldn't expect to spend any more than that I suppose. I thought you northern hemisphere guys would be pushing out the Zzz's when i posted that. Were you out polishing the 907's? Perhaps trying on those DP red Borat bathers, camera in hand??

Yeah Duc. Bris told me around 2 weeks for 848 demo.

I know what it is like at QR on a 600 when people putt around the corner then gas it on there 1000 and blow you away down the straight. But you just have to gap them enough in the corners and under brakes.
Alot of people complain about how crap QR is but I still don't think it is that bad... I mean there are alot of better tracks but you will have heaps of fun and it is alot more confidence inspiring than you would think on your first time out being no cars, no crap on the track and you can see everywhere.
There is a first timers group which is not very dangerous ( no undertaking, slow pace etc.)
Might see you out there one day.

Hey tennineeight / brettc63
QR still has the fun factor but i just wish is was not so bumby. Coming into turn 1 touching the front brake the bike just jumpes all over the place. A couple of times my right foot bounced of the foot peg.. Its not an eastern creek which i love for track days but none the less its better than nothing. Anytime you guys want to have a relaxing day and do a few laps i'm in. BTW saw an 848 today. Still happy i have the 1098...

Brettc63, i have a brand new Teknic suit size 52 black, never seen the seat of a bike. Ill dump it cheap, PM me if ya keen.

Cheers Smarty

One thing i was let down by was not getting the rear seat cowl included in the price, for a $20k plus bike they can't give a $150 piece of plastic....

hahaha. we're talking money here. hello pals! here in our country - Philippines, Duc can cost u a modest car brand. Example: Honda Civic SiR, Accord maybe. a yamaha R6 can cost u 750,000 Pesos. isnt that a big susrprise? dnt know yet how much an 848 here. but a 1098/S cost u Million Pesos here if im nt mistaken. but when ur in a Duc, all eyes to you saying big WOOOW!!! anyways, im looking forward to 1098R.

Thats about USD66k! Am I right?

Just one question, where will you ride a 1098 in that congested traffic of Manilla? Its good for a 50cc, but a 1098 will never breathe???
