1098 or RSV??? (oh! and hello to all, newbee here)

Blame - thanks brother...and that is just the thing...i have (for me) the perfect wife who will allow me to get whatever i want - it is because of this freedom that i am in this dilema...i want to honor her because of it

does this make sense? i could easily get the duc, go for a few rides, then b/c it is not that comfy for her she would just slowly not ride with me anymore...and i know that this would work...but i want to honor her in the way that she loves and respects me...this is why i want it to be comfy for her..

Well 5 of the six are easily fulfilled by the 1098s. In the twisties, she truly communicates what going on when your leaned over and she does it well. She's feels like a 600cc but really feels like twice the bike in comparo to my old girl ZX6R. The one I can't honestly state would be the right fit is the comfort for the wifey. I rode my italian 200 mi back and forth to Moto GP and I WAS in pain, traps, tris, and wrist...even the occasional one arm on tank didn't alleviate these pains. Main reason for this pain was I was doing zero twisties and all highway straight aways for about an hour n a half wearing a backpack.

As for your wifey on the back, the underseat exhaust heat might bake her right thigh if you cruise around town and she (1098) starts reaching 200+ degrees on thermostat.

But you will not see many Ducati 1098's or 848 with much regularity. She will often draw crowds at local bike hangouts and the she will seriously amaze you when go to the twisties. She is quite reliable...oh I just remembered. The coolest thing owning this girl is I became a Desmo Club member thru Ducati North America which gives CA Ducati Owners free towing up to $200 and a service hotline as well. Now that ups the reliability of owning a Duc.

I still think you should go with a Duc so you have no regrets and most women find the 1098 hotter than the Aprilia, which I think your wife would as well. Show her the brochures on both, see what she finds the better choice.

Either way, both bikes are more than enough to meet most of your needs. Keep us posted and include pics of your new bike when you get her.
 
...and this is the reason that i am leaning towards the ape...i truly agree with your loyality and love for the duc...and i have the same feelings...but my love for my wife overshadows any feelings i may have for a bike...but as for now...i think that mife wife's buns are smokin' enough without the duc baking them further LOL

i don't feel that there will be regret if i pick the ape because both bikes are great in there own respect...if i wanted HP and strict performance for the track the choice would be a no-brainer for me...but that is not what i am looking for right now...next year or 2 is a different story...the ape is a great bike too...nothing to scoff at...and longer rides will be more pleasureable comfort-wise (even on straight roads)...there is still plenty of italian passion in the rsv...

not true as far as actual price...(but if you are just telling me that it is your OPINION then thank you for sharing - i just disagree)

i am really diggin' the factory (red lion)...my first impression was that it was ugly...but it has really grown on me...and it is very different

no sport matching gear for us...it is not "my bag baby" (except for helmets). i already have a jacket that is 4 years old, but it was $399 at the time i got it. when i sold my last bike 3 yrs ago, i opted to keep the jacket...i can remember when i DID have my bike (btw, it was my ONLY source of transportation for about 5 yrs) i use to laugh to myself whenever i saw matching gear (especially seeing this fragile young lil' thing with her boyfriend on a harley wearing a pink helmet)...so...for whatever reason, it is not for me...but i have grown up (a little) so if now if ppl want to match, then that is great for them and i have no opinion either way...but i do need a jacket for my wife...
i had a meeting with my cpa to get my business and personal taxes completed within the next week...after everything looks good (and we don't owe eleventy-bilion dollars) i am moving full speed ahead...my hopes are to have it within 2-3 weeks...1 month tops

i have enjoyed this conversation immensely and i have learned sooo much that my passion for ducati (which WAS non-existent) is now soaring...when the aprila V4 comes out in a year or 2 i will take a serious look at it...but i absolutely adore the black 1098s...

when i DO get the bike i will post for all to mock as to "WHY DIDN'T YOU GET THE DUCATI"... i will just refer them to this thread...and if they really want to know they can study my questions and responses and learn my evolution of thought as to my conclusion...but most people won't really care anyway lol

anyone have any advice as far as purchasing a new bike? any good stories? how you got the most amazing deal? free stuff or things that you have negotiated for, etc?
