I just did my 1,000 mile service:

Oil: Mobil1 10W/50
Tranny: Lucas 75W/90
Primary: ATF Type F
Filter: Wix

Paranoia: I hear a slight tapping from lower part of engine. Heck - It may have been there all along but now I hear it and think I may have done something wrong.

Check fluid levels according to service manual. It is perfect.
 
You're using all different oils then stock. If all levels are correct and you put the proper oil in the proper hole, you're probably just hearing normal sounds. Some synthetics have a tendancy to magnify sounds. Specifically valvetrain.
 
Ever since I had an aftermarket oil filter fail on a pickup I've used original harley filters on my bike. Other than that your change would be the same as mine. Didn't like losing oil pressure.
 
I have done all my own services from day one. Make damn sure that you keep a log book with all dates and services performed and also keep every reciept for all fluids aswell. If like in my case that a tranny bearing fails the MOCO will want to verify that all services have been performed at the proper intervals with the proper fluids. Those records can be priceless.

And don't expect the dealer to get it exactly right; my transmission needed 8 fl.oz added to achieve the proper level after the service.
 
I can believe that. My tranny dipstick was sitting at the "add" mark and the dipstick itself was barely finger tight.
 
Some dealers ask for records,some dont.
I had to have the lifters replaced under warranty.I was not asked to show any records for my own services.
Have not had to show records for the 3 shifter shaft seal replacements either.
Not saying dont keep records.
 
Funny you say that, I've been doing all my own maintenance since day one also. Keep perfect records, and change fluids at the correct intervals.
That said - I'm in the middle of changing out my Main drive gear bearing myself. I didn't want to take the chance of HD charging me to rebuild the trans while out of warranty by a year. That tab could run upwards of $800!
I had to make some special tools, but my tab, including a new SE Compensator, will be $400.
Oh yeah - a few busted knuckles too......
