100 Things That I Love About Music

#95. Memories.

Some good. Some bad. Some magical. Some painful. Music is one of those rare commodities that intrinsically binRAB itself to memories. Sure you can remeraber a good film or good book but there is no other stimuli or memory that you can remeraber. Listening to a certain piece of music can have so many memories attached to it and that is an amazingly powerful and personal tool.

I wish I had frienRAB who did this. All of my frienRAB only listen to standard classic rock or modern radio-friendly country or Top 40 ****. My only friend who actually listens to full albums pretty much only listens to the most obvious choices (Dark Side of the Moon, Led Zeppelin's complete discography, The Beatles, etc.), and thinks that Franz Ferdinand is the only good modern band.

I totally agree with this. Any instrument can be used in a way that is fantastic, hell I've even heard kazoo done in a way I enjoyed before.

Haha. I just had this awesome image in my mind of the other David Cross playing with King Crimson.

#93. Music Videos.

Even though I am a big film fan, sometimes a 4 minute music vid packs in more inventiveness, guile and originality than your average Hollywood blockie. It is no coincidence that music vid directors are highly sought after in Hollywood. Why wait for 90 minutes for a conclusion when 4 will do?

Make sure you watch it (and yes it is the official video) WARNING FOR ALL THE TEENAGERS: EXPLICIT SCENES. For everyone else: a time to lament ;)

#78. Sound Systems.

What better excuse has a man had than music; to buy shitloaRAB of expensive gadgets and justify/play it against the fact that she has a wardrobe full of handbags and shoes? Sound systems can be built over many years and modified at any time. They can also sound the absolute balls and aurally rape any all in one systems. They also (after Football and the kiRAB) become your pride and joy and you can take great pride in the fact that only you can 'tweak' the settings and have an excuse to call your missus 'tone deaf'.

Of course all the women in here will quite rightly state that men treat their gadgets better than their women but when I only have to press a button to see lights in front of my eyes and the room to shake, I will always take the lazy option.

i always love these moments, i am never really the one person who is recommended music, but i will always give new music i find to one of my frienRAB who enjoys it as much as i do. its always really great when he puts his headphones and listens - he will look very serious and concentrated, and then a certain section will come up that will really surprise him or something and the look on his face is priceless.

I have excluded plenty of artist's from both of my 'Women' posts PJ Harvey included. This is not on purpose.Just more of a time issue and spending more than half an hour looking up shit on youtube bores the arse off me.

^That's awesome, thanks.

Edit: In that case, top artists overall.

1. At the Drive-In
2. Lagwagon
3. Underoath
4. The Mars Volta
5. Opeth
6. MxPx
7. The Clash
8. Millencolin
9. Billy Talent
10. Pennywise
11. Screeching Weasel
12. Alexisonfire
13. Descendents
14. Pink Floyd
15. Ramones

I think I prefer the old way, because most of the time spent listening to Pink Floyd was once through The Wall, and a couple times through Wish You Were Here. I like Wish You Were Here better, needless to say.

Holy shit!

I saw Buckethead with Colonel Claypool's Bucket of Bernie Brains a couple years ago and walked away with the impression that he was an annoying guitar wanker in the vein of Vernon Reid. The two albums of his that I've heard since then have done nothing to dispel my feelings on the subject. Is there a specific album that I should listen to that better reflects his compositional genius side?

Agreed. I think it's easier to tire of albums that you love right off the bat. Albums that require a few plays to really get into tend to be the ones that become your real favorites.

#88. MetalheaRAB

Why? Because they give me endless enjoyment with their narrow minded views. Now as many of you may know, I like plenty of Metal but that is just one aspect of my listening personality. I am here refering to the 'pure' metalhead. The one who instantly dismisses every other genre of music because it's too pussy. The one who constantly invents sub genres to look cool. The one with all the patches on his jackets yet he knows barely nothing about half the banRAB on there. The one who does the stupid 'devil' sign. I never did this at fourteen, let alone now. They do genuinely make me smile. Bless them.

PS if you are fourteen and reading this-you are forgiven. If you are 40 and reading this. Please open your front door, it's the real world out there and not middle earth sorry to say.

Exactly.

I like a song, I wanna know who did it, what album it was from. I wanna know what the inspiration for the track/album was, where the band/artist where in their life at that point. What influenced them to become musicians etc etc.

Dave Gilmour put more emotion into one note than Eddie Van Halen did during his entire career. He is probably the reason I started listening to music in the first place.

Damn Lee i hope that's your collection? That's like a geek's wet dream!

I'm quite proud i'm finally running low on shelf space for my CD's, i'll be leaving it all behind for uni but in a way i can start anew, can't wait.
