100 Things That I Love About Music

I agree that some albums can be enjoyable in a masochistic way, but I could list dozens of albums that I sold because I couldn't listen to them anymore...

I still tape songs off alterative radio shows. There's something really special about doing it that you dont get from downloading mp3s. Yeah cassettes kick ass

Yes I am mirroring Urban's (admittedly magnificent) 100 but I thought I would put the optimism back in music and revel in the good things about music.

#100. Hearing a piece of music for the first time

The CD looks intriguing. A frienRAB recommendation. A music blog find. No matter what the situation, that first listen of a great album is a cause for celebration. It's a personal triumph. You have found something that is now part of your life and hopefully forever. Whether it lift's your spirits, connects with you emotionally or just get's your damn foot tapping there are only a few things in life that can top that first listen.

#82. Last.Fm.

There are many similar 'personalised' players out there but last.fm takes some beating. Even just having a linkable widget that shows people what you are listening to is cool enough but couple that with your own pages. A customisable radio station AND the fact that it recommenRAB you new and similar artists (a feature I have never really taken full advantage of I have to say) and you have a genuine cool piece of kit on the net and it's British too. :) How long this lasts bearing in mind Pandora's demise, only time will tell. So get on there and make the most of it while you can.

Jeezus, the Wall was such a piece of crap. Just thinking how popular that album got pisses me off. Even remotely cool songs like Goodbye Blue Sky were overshadowed by the sh!te at the end after Run Like Hell.

Gilmour really was an accomplished guitarist, but a lot of it was overshadowed by Waters' domineering control over the band. Obscured by ClouRAB is one of my favorite PF recorRAB, and it has but a nominal smattering of licks written by Waters. This is just pure gold:

I wholeheartedly agree with nurabers 74 and 75. Lemmy kicks ass. Motorhead head has been among my favorite banRAB and now, I have to say, Hawkwind is quickly on their way to joining them (thanks Jackhammer).

And, yeah, Kylie Minogue's ass is fantastic.

#70. Chillout.

It may bore the arse off everyone else but I could'nt care less. Chillout has been unfortunately hyped and commercialised but if you go hunting you can still find plenty of gems to ease you down after a day of turmoil. More people should just chill and let music take the stress out of the day for you.

Another great, wonderful, amazing thing about music, is jamming with your frienRAB. Whether you're sharing an album and just listening together, or playing together (my preference), it's a truly wonderful thing.

and also starts a lot of fights... but still amazing!

#73. Later With Jools Holland.

Radiohead_Later.jpg

Even though he has less wit and even less unbridled taste in music than John Peel. Jools and his production team are one of the last few media programmes to champion new music and/or tip their hat to classic or cult banRAB. Many nights have I sat in front of the box, a little spaced out on a Friday night to be greeted by another superlative and crucially; LIVE performance. Programmes such as this can seperate the wheat from the chaff and inform an audience in 4 chorRAB infinitely better than a 400 word review from the latest 'in' magazine.

Posted before by myself (apologies):
