100 Greatest Stand-Ups 2010 (Next Friday)

Channel 4 were the distributors of Brand's last dvd and I'd imagine have the rights to show it on tv, hence he was always going to be high up the list .

Edit: I know it's pointless to care about C4 list shows, but anyone who thinks Gervais is better as a stand up than Bill Hicks is bonkers.
 
Personally Tim Vine is good in very small segments, I got a DVD of his a year ago, and it was honestly the least funny show I ever saw. However for his uniqueness I wouldn't argue with his place in the top 100. There's a few of his jokes which do make me smile.


A favourite of mine, who a lot of people don't seem to rate very highly is Ed Byrne, hopefully he can jump up a few places.
 
Its all subjective, but how the hell did Michael Mcintyre make the top ten?
That Scouse bloke with the teeth & the quiff is funnier than him.
 
Very very pleasantly surprise to see Stewart Lee so high, even if I would have him higher.

Plus he can tell his mum Tom O'Connor didn't even make the list. :D

I wonder if this is due to his BBC 2 show.
 
Well... as I found trying it for myself at first doing the ''isn't it hard to open a packet of cheese'' (kay, carrott) observational sort of humour that it does get laughs but it's still very hit and miss and hard after the first 5 minutes of the act as people begin to loose interest.

but then tried switching to the Vine style of doing non-stop quick fire gags (many with props) and it's constant as you're hitting them over & over again and it worked better for me so I can see why he does it as well. Not everyone works every single time (you always get failures) and you'll always get people who hate the kind of humour who will be-little you for it... but it gets the laughs from audiences
 
I saw him at the Hammersmith Apollo a lifetime ago. I believe he wasn't sipping water but taking morphine to kill the pain of the pancreatic cancer that was killing him. So sad that he died so young. So sad that Dennis Leary stole his routine on smoking word for word. I would recommend getting some of his CDs or watching the DVD 'Totally Bill Hicks' but really his comedy was of its time. Still funny, but over the years many have copied his style and I guess he is probably not as relevant (despite his Gulf War routine being so good that if you heard it recently you would have thought of Tony Blair). Like Lenny Bruce he was a true visionary...

Fourth isn't too bad, but I found the list woeful and intend to vote next time...
