I gonna head for the dealer tomorrow and see if they have any ideas. I know you can use 08 wheels (25mm bearing) by just changing the bearing. I wonder if the 09-10 wheels have a different outside diameter bearing or if its as simple as a bearing switch, maybe just an axel from an 09-10

By the looks of your sigpic, go ahead and get a back wheel while you're at it! Oh, and a gas tank, seat, and pick up some fenders too............

1 in. is 25.4 mm . In the parts book the part number for lower fork sliders are the same for all years. So I'm thinking it will work with updated bearing and axles. PM dawg maybe he would know

Hey, very funny!! Its because of you that my bike looks like this. After reading your thread on your engine upgrade and seeing how CLEAN your bike was it made me sick about how filthy mine was. Only one solution, strip it down and give every part a good cleaning. That should keep me out of the house and in the barn just about all winter.

We're visual people ya know!!! We need PICS!!!! oh, and documentation so we can follow along! I'm sure it's gonna look snazzy when you're done!

I guess I'm missing something. 25m.m. is .984". The bore through the front sliders is a slip fit for 1.000". The 25.m.m axle is too small for the sliders. How could they use that axle? Sleeves to make it the right size would only have a wall of .008" so that's out. The only solution I see is to use 1" i.d. bearings, with the same o.d. as the new wheels, in the late model wheel. Then you have to check spacers it so the rotor lines up with the caliper. Did I miss something?

You didnt miss anything, this is what I am trying to figure out. The lower fork sliders are the same part from 00-current. In 08, the axle bearing changed from 1" to 25mm. Since the forks did not change when the axle did, an 08-10 axle should fit any fork from 00-current. Can anyone tell me if the axle has a slightly different diameter where the forks mount vs the shaft that slides through the bearings. Swapping out the bearings was my first thought, like you mentioned, but when I noticed the forks are the same part I thought it might be easier to switch axles and use the spacers from the 08-current to make sure the disks were in line with the calipers.

OK - I just ran out to the barn. The front axle is stepped in 3 different diameters. Its about 3/4" on the threaded end where it slides through the left side fork, then 1" in the center portion, and +/- 1 1/8" at the butt end where the right side fork clamps the axle. I am going to guess that the 08-10 axle is similar in design with a 25mm center section.

TheWhitedogg,

That would make sense, from a production standpoint to use the same lower fork sliders, especially if there was no real benefit to a re-design. This doesn't look like too difficult of modification!

I'm really dreaming of that nice '10 SG Front rim on my RK. Now I'm curious how its going to look with a 16" in back and an 18" in front? hehe.

The axle dia changed size for the bearings. The outside parts of the axle are the same size for the fork sliders.
