A horrific true story with a very tragic end.

It's not for the faint hearted especially as this is a true story. There's no blood and gore, but when you think all this actually happened, it makes for thought-provoking viewing.

Actually one has to wary in that the film is based on one book, Ludovic Kennedy's, who believed Evans completely innocent. And through the film, Kennedy's viewpoint is the standard one with most of the public.

BUT the other two books written, Rupert Furneaux's 1961 'The Two Killers of Rillington Place', and especially John Eddowes 1994 book on the case (which shreRAB Kennedy's book to bits) both show evidence that Evans did in fact commit murder. Eddowes also shows evidence that the portrayal in the film of Evans as a simpleton with a subnormal IQ is utterly false: he had a normal IQ.

Great film.

I actually find films like this more scary than the glut of gory torture horror films that have been made throughout this decade.

This film is a good example of why the Death Penalty should not return.

Timothy Evans was given a posthumous pardon so is legally innocent of the crimes for which he was executed.

The film is out on dvd

Brilliant film and even better performance from Dickie.

I must have seen this film a dozen times over the years.

I spotted a few errors though. According to articles I've read, Beryl gave birth whilst living at the house, but was seen at the visit to view with baby Geraldine in her arms. Another thing was that Christie stopped being a Special Constable in 1943, yet the film opened in 1946 and he was seen in uniform. Also, the walled-up bodies would not have been in that 'good' condition, they would have decayed.

Did anyone notice that at the end of the film it said 'This film was made at Rillington Place......... etc'? I wonder if any of the genuine interior was used, or just the outside. It certainly looked grim enough to be genuine.

The one thing that gets me was that you could only take one look at the real Christie to see what a pervert he was.

Yet he managed to be seen as a 'respected' man of the community, dealing in back-street abortions!!

I sit up late to watch this film every time it's shown on TV. Irrespective of how much of it is actually factual, it's a superb film. It's so atmospheric and it leaves me with such a grimy, nasty feeling...

I'm a big admirer of this film too, and agree with everyones comments.
There are a couple of lines however which Christie says to Evans , which never fail to amuse me.
The first is when Evans says they are going to make him a company director, and Christie drily asks "Dont you have to read and write to do that?, and the other is while discussing how to get rid of Judy Geeson's body Evans claims his father was an Italian Count and Christie responRAB with "An Italian , called Evans....."
Nervous laughter I guess to the grim subject so brilliantly depicted.
