10 albums you need to hear before you die.

Caress of Steel is great. The Short Tracks are throwaway's the two epics are amazing. The Necromancer and Fountain of Lamneth. Those are great tracks. Not to mention Lakeside Park.

Shit man I never pegged you for a Talk Talk fan! I have a few albums and they're thoroughly steeped in the eighties, but even so they're awesome as forerunners to the "arabient" alternative genre. Spirit of Eden is absolutely gorgeous in its simplicity.

And to think there's cunts out there like Steven Wilson who perpetuate the myth that no good prog came out of the eighties.

Not our fault you have the weirdest taste on here ;)

This thread isn't about listing timeless albums, just ones that are timeless on a personal level.

you were doing great until this point...

I actually listen to everything, except hip-hop and rap which are not my thing, I just don't like them, a lot of people do, but I don't...
I listen to everything. from Elvis to Muse, and from Nancy Sinatra to Ozzy Osbourne, and my favorite band is Pink Floyd btw. but that's not the point anw...I'm not trying here to make a point against your musical tastes, as far as I know, we may even like some of the same banRAB, but I'm however tired of people saying that today's music is worthless, because it isn't...

Probably shouldn't have vented, but my old roommate said the exact damn thing "() is the album I want playing when I die" to me not even a week ago, and he's a poster child for scene children everywhere. = /

So yeah, deja vu's a bitch.

spark10036: Modern music isn't worthless, its the fans who elevate one or two banRAB and ignore everyone else who isn't releasing some new single on a big label that are the problem. In either case, I apologize; shouldn't have assumed what and what you didn't listen to, I just jumped the gun a bit, lol!

Since I'm from MN, I gotta rep Tapes n' Tapes. They haven't polished off just yet but I have hope that they will take strides to create some amazing music here in the next few years. =]

I tried to avoid the temptation of attempting to balance my list with albums from a variety of eras and instead went with my gut on what I like the most. Also, I tried to ignore the nagging thought of focusing on influence rather than just personal preference. So here's my lopsided, totally subjective list in no particular order:

1. The Cure—Disintegration
2. Television—Marquee Moon
3. Gang of Four—Entertainment
4. Brian Wilson—Smile
5. Swans—Love of Life
6. Tom Waits—Rain Dogs
7. Bob Mould—Workbook
8. Kill Me Tomorrow—The Garbageman and the Prostitute
9. Iggy Pop—The Idiot
10. Alien Sex Fiend—Curse

I admit if i want a Nirvana fix i turn to In Utero 9/10 but i still think Nevermind has a lot of merit. IV is one of Zep's most dynamic offerings, it brings so much more to the table than what you're suggesting and fuses many influences to create something brimmming with power and soul. OK Computer i think is transcendant of time and space. Alienation, stagnation and anxiety are unfortunately synonymous with the human condition and i think lyrically there are few better albums that explore this so succinctly. Plus i still think it is very relevant in todays social climate. As for Neutral Milk Hotel, i dont see what they and Talk Talk have in common? All i can say is i love the music.
